About Me
Hi, I’m Janet McMillan, founder of Best Behaved Dogs, and I’m truly living my childhood dream! I’ve wanted to train dogs for as long as I can remember, and today I’m grateful to have the opportunity to help families across Northern Virginia build stronger, more peaceful relationships with their dogs.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with more than 4,000 dogs from 125+ breeds, from well-known favorites like Labrador Retrievers, Poodles, and Dachshunds, to unique breeds such as Bullmastiffs, English Setters, and Catahoula Leopard Dogs. Many of my clients also have wonderful mixed breeds of every size, from tiny 2-pound companions to 170-pound giants.
I’ve trained dogs as young as 5 weeks old and as senior as 14 years old, tailoring methods to fit each dog’s needs and each family’s goals. I also guide owners in achieving AKC titles including Canine Good Citizen, Manners, Fitness, and Tricks, helping both dogs and families celebrate their hard work together.
When I’m not training professionally, I stay active with my own dogs in a wide range of sports: competitive obedience, rally, agility, lure coursing, weight pulling, and more. These activities keep me connected to the joy of learning and teamwork that I aim to share with every family I work with.
At Best Behaved Dogs, my mission is simple: to help every family enjoy a happier, calmer life with their dog, built on trust, understanding, and mutual respect. Check out my services page or contact me to discuss your dog's needs!
